So there you are!

Alternatives to Hex

Web colours are mostly defined in hexidecimal notation (stuff that looks like #FFCCOO, or #330066) but you don't have to use hex to define colours.

Though most people do use hex numbers, they're not really very intutitive, on account of being base 16 and everything.

An often overlooked alternative, especially if you're using CSS (and you are, aren't you?) is to define using good old Photoshop style RGB values.

First find out the RGB values of your the colour you're wanting to define, then instead of writing your usual hex value try putting rgb(*,*,*) where the *'s are the red, green and blue values of your colour. Values can range between 0 to 255

And... if you don't like the uneasy feeling of defining values between 0 and 255 try percentages instead - rgb(*%,*%,*%)

Finally a reminder. It's nice there are named colours but you can't always trust 'em, so really, you should always depend on the numbers.
