Starting a Site in Dreamweaver

Before you get anywhere you've got to make sure that you've created a folder to keep your site in. Once you've done that you have to tell Dreamweaver where it is.

  1. Go to the Site > Manage Sites menu
  2. Click the New Button on the subsequent dialog box
  3. Ignore the Basic tab and go for the Advanced (1) options then...
  4. Make sure that you're looking at the Local Info (2) section.
  1. Name your site (3)
  2. Click on the folder icon (4) and find your Local Site Folder (5).

You don't need to define an image folder (6) if you don't want to (but you can if you want) and you don't need to fill in the http address (7) - it only works out whether absolute links that point to your site should be treated as local links...

Everything Lives in the Site Folder

Don't forget, everything, but everything, all your pages, all your images, all your media...

MUST be kept in your site folder.

Before you start off a site, copy all your resources over into your site folder.

This means that when you upload your site none of it will get left behind and you won't suffer from broken links and missing images.
