Publishing Your Site Using Dreamweaver FTP

Use Dreamweaver for uploading your web pages...

  1. Go to to the Site Menu and choose Manage Sites.
  2. Locate your site and click Edit
  3. Go to Remote Info and choose FTP from the Access pop-up
  4. Fill in the details (see side panel — what is FTP?)
  5. Close dialogue box
  6. Expand the Files Panel by clicking on the Expand Files Icon icon on the files panel
  7. Click Connect button Dreamweaver Connect Icon at top of expanded files panel
  8. Wait until Dreamweaver connects to your site
  9. Click Put Dreamweaver PUT icon

You don't have to use Dreamweaver for your FTP and might find you get a more reliable connection with other clients. If I'm using OS X I really like using Transmit 2 and sometimes find it's the only thing that will delete files that Dreamweaver's FTP refuses to budge. I'm not certain what's best on the PC but if DW ain't working out for you try another FTP client.

What is FTP?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocal. It's just a way of moving files around the internet.

In order to use FTP you'll need to get a username and a password, as well as the name of the FTP server you're planning on using.

If you use an ISP to connect to the internet and they offer you web space then you'll have to ask them for your FTP details. If not you'll need to speak to whoever looks after your server...
